Kapamilya star Gerald Anderson is trying out the producer's chair, sharing his first project, "Rekonek", an official entry to the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival.
"Rekonek," which tells the story of the worldwide loss of the internet on Christmas Eve, will be produced in partnership between Gerald's The Th3rd Floor Studios and Dondon Monteverde's Reality MM Studios.
"I am trying to learn as much as I can as a producer. Kanina napagusapan namin ang mga plans for next year. And these are the projects na gusto kong gawin because out of the box sila. Alam naman natin ang Reality MM Studios hindi sila basta basta nagpo-produce. So it's a privilege for me to be in partnership with Sir Dondon. (I am trying to learn as much as I can as a producer. We recently talked about plans for next year. And these are the projects I want to do because they are out-of-the-box. We know that Reality MM Studios doesn't just produce. So it's a privilege for me to be in partnership with Sir Dondon)," said Gerald on being a first-time producer.
Gerald aspires to embark on meaningful projects that empower individuals to discover new knowledge and skills, igniting a passion for learning and personal growth.
"In terms of projects, sana may natutunan sila. Like yung teleserye ko, it's about scamming. Ang daming nangyayaring ganyan. So I went to Cebu at may mga lumalapit sa akin na na-scam daw sila. Dahil dyan nabibigyan ng awareness ang Pilipinas. Yan ang mga gusto kong project. May social awareness at may matutunan sila. (In terms of projects, I hope they learned something. Like my teleserye, it's about scamming. There are a lot of things like that happening. So I went to Cebu, and people came to me saying they were scammed. Because of that, the Philippines is being given awareness. Those are the projects I want. There is social awareness, and they can learn something)," the actor said.
On why he decided to become a producer, Gerald said, "When you have the opportunities (to produce), let's not waste them. We just talked about it, and I decided to produce when it was opened up to me. The fact that it was opened up to me means something. So I grabbed it. At the same time, I can provide jobs."
Gerald, 36, said he's excited about his other business ventures, including gyms in Quezon City and a resort in Zambales. He hopes to direct in the future.
"Dito muna ako sa business ventures ko. Directing din sana. Sana in the future, kahit hindi ako ang bida, sana makakapag direct ako ng pelikula. I'm the type of person na ayokong sayangin ang mga yun. (I'm here for my business ventures. I hope to direct as well. Hopefully, in the future, even if I'm not the star, I'll be able to direct a movie. I'm the type of person who doesn't want to waste those things)," he also said.

On the inspiration to film "Rekonek," Dondon said, "Nagshooting kami noon sa Zambales. Then nawalan kami ng internet. So nakita namin nag nagkagulo-gulo. Ang hirap nga naman na mawalan ng internet these days. So nakaisip kami ng project na days before Christmas, mawawala ang internet. So ano ang mangyayari sa buhay natin? Maraming lessons sa movie. At maraming magagaling na artista rito. We want to give a good show and the value for their money. (We were shooting in Zambales. Then we lost the internet. So we saw chaos. It's tough to lose the internet these days. So we came up with a project where, days before Christmas, the internet will be gone. So what will happen to our lives? There are many lessons in the movie. And there are many great artists here. We want to give a good show and the value for their money.)"
After "Rekonek," Gerald said that he's excited for two projects in 2026.
"We have two projects in the works for next year. As much as I want to tell you about them, let's talk about them next time. I'm excited about these two projects because they are ones I've always wanted to do," he said.
At the same media conference, Gerald was about to reconnect with his former girlfriend, Julia Barretto. The actor just smiled and did not answer the question.
On his advice about reconnecting with other people, Gerald said, "There are times na may mga tao sa buhay natin na we should reconnect with at may mga hindi. Sa journey natin may mga passersby lang sa buhay natin. They come into your life. They can be family, friends, or business partners. As long as you enjoy life with that person, with that group of people, or that project, there are times when you need to grow. Many people can relate to the movie. (There are times when there are people in our lives that we should reconnect with and there are times when we shouldn't. On our journey, there are just passersby in our lives. They come into your life.)"
