The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday, October 29, paid tribute to organizations that continue to honor and support Filipino educators, noting that these initiatives boost teacher morale and reinforce the nation’s respect for the teaching profession.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, in a statement, lauded partners such as the Metrobank Foundation, Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA), Antonio L. Cabangon Chua Gintong Parangal Para sa Edukasyon, and Gabay Guro, emphasizing that their programs highlight teaching as a noble and transformative profession.
“Kasabay ng ating reporma para sa kaguruan, bawat pagkilalang ibinibigay sa ating mga guro ay nagpapalalim ng paggalang ng bayan sa kanilang sakripisyo at paglilingkod (Alongside our reforms for the teaching profession, every recognition given to our teachers deepens the nation’s respect for their sacrifice and service),” Angara said.
“We are improving teacher programs and ensuring that every reform leads to real improvements in their classrooms. Because when we lift up our teachers, we lift up the entire education system,” he added.
President Marcos honors Metrobank Awardees
DepEd said President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the recent awarding of the Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos at Malacañan Palace, recognizing ten exceptional teachers, soldiers, and police officers for their dedication to public service and nation-building.
“It is always with the greatest pride, honor, and pleasure that I honor the Metrobank Foundation Outstanding Filipinos because you are exemplary individuals who have gone the extra mile to transform lives and uplift communities,” the President said.
Ilocos Norte teacher receives 2025 Princess Maha Chakri Award
DepEd also celebrated Teacher Lea Domingo of Luzong Elementary School, SDO Ilocos Norte, who was named the Philippine recipient of the 2025 Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA).
The biennial award recognizes outstanding Southeast Asian teachers who demonstrate exceptional commitment to education and community development.
Domingo was honored for her innovative environmental and sustainability projects, joining five other Filipinos who have previously received international recognition.
Gintong Parangal celebrates hard work and discipline
Angara likewise commended the recipients of the Antonio L. Cabangon Chua Gintong Parangal Para sa Edukasyon, an awards program that honors educators and school personnel for their dedication and integrity.
Now in its 14th year, the program—organized by Fortune Life Insurance Company and Marylindbert International—recognized 18 outstanding education workers across three categories: Paglilingkod (Service) – five non-teaching personnel; Pamumuno (Leadership) – five education leaders; and Guro (Teaching) – eight teachers, including honorable mentions.
The Gintong Parangal program continues to promote the values of hard work and discipline as keys to academic and national progress.
Gabay Guro: Honoring heroes of learning
DepEd also acknowledged the efforts of the Gabay Guro Foundation, a long-time partner in empowering and supporting teachers nationwide.
The foundation recently held its Grand Gathering of Teachers in Pasig City with the theme “Our Teachers: Heroes of Learning, Builders of Tomorrow.”
Angara praised PLDT Inc. and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan and Gabay Guro Chairperson Chaye Revilla for their unwavering commitment to teachers’ welfare and education reform.
“When we recognize our teachers, we remind the nation that progress begins in the classroom,” Angara said. “Through these partnerships, we not only uplift educators but also strengthen the foundations of Philippine education,” he added.
