CEBU CITY – Four public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and one conductor tested positive for drug use in separate surprise drug tests in major terminals here on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The random drug tests at the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) and Cebu North Bus Terminal (CNBT) were part of “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos!: Undas 2025,” which aims to ensure safety and security of passengers traveling for All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.
A total of 151 drivers, 18 taxi drivers, and four motorcycle drivers were made to undergo the drug test.
Six administrative staff at NBT and 12 security guards at SBT were also tested.
According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA-7), two taxi drivers, one bus driver, one minibus driver, and a conductor flunked the surprise drug tests led by Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7) in collaboration with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, PDEA-7, and the Philippine National Police.
LTO-7 Regional Director Glen Galario said immediate action was taken against those who tested positive for drug use.
“We have confiscated the drivers' and conductor's licenses of those who tested positive, pending their confirmatory tests,” Galario.
The five individuals were turned over to the Cebu City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (COSAP) for appropriate intervention.
"This random drug testing helps assure the riding public that their drivers and conductors are fit for duty and are not using illegal drugs," Galario added.
