DAVAO CITY – Big Bad Wolf Books, the world’s largest book sale, will return to Davao City from Nov. 13 to 24 at The Tent, Azuela Cove in Lanang, featuring around one million books with nearly 20,000 titles.
Co-founder and executive director Jacqueline Ng said on Tuesday, Oct. 28, that they will donate 1,000 books to the Davao City government.
“Our team has initially spoken with the city government. We will be donating 1,000 books and are still discussing where they will distribute them,” Ng said.
Ng said that Big Bad Wolf was first invited to Davao in 2018 by then-Mayor now Vice President Sara Duterte who later presented the company with a plaque of appreciation for their contributions to the city.
“We are really grateful to see the appreciation of Davao City and to know the importance of the books. It is why we are making a lot of effort to return to the city every year,” she said.
Ng said this year’s event marks their renewed effort to make reading more accessible and affordable. She explained that their mission goes beyond catering to the existing reading population.
The Big Bad Wolf co-founder said that the company aims to reach 95 to 97 percent of people who do not regularly read, rather than focusing on the small percentage who already do.
“We go to countries where English is not the official language and books are often unaffordable or unavailable. We aim to promote literacy and make reading part of everyday life,” Ng said.
She said that they maintain long-standing relationships with publishers and distributors in the United Kingdom and the United States to secure quality titles at affordable prices.
While last year’s Davao event offered two million books, Ng said this year will have fewer titles to align with market demand. “Davao’s population isn’t that large, so we adjusted to a million books this time.”
Returning with discounts of up to 90 percent, the 2025 Davao leg will feature the Campus Challenge designed to engage schools and educators who strongly support the event.
“I never realized how many schools here buy in bulk for their libraries. Teachers are passionate and enthusiastic about educating their students, which inspired us to make the event even more exciting,” Ng said.
Big Bad Wolf Books is a small bookshop in Malaysia that has since grown into a global brand promoting English literacy through large-scale book sales across multiple countries.
