RGEC awaits final grid approval for 40-MW Isabela solar project
Yuchengco-led Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC) is awaiting final approval from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) before its 40 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar project in San Pablo, Isabela, can begin providing power supply to the Luzon grid.
In a Philippine Stock Exchange disclosure on Tuesday, Oct. 28, PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC) announced that the Limbauan Solar Power Project (LSPP) has been connected to the grid after development works were completed in August.
It is currently awaiting the grid operator’s decision on an energization request filed on Aug. 29, the company said.
The facility’s first phase, consisting of six megawatts direct current (MWdc), has been integrated into the Isabela Electric Cooperative’s (ISELCO) distribution system. Its second phase, which is 34 MWdc, has been linked to the 69-kilovolt (kV) Tugueguarao-Cabangan transmission line. The project was undertaken by RGEC’s operating unit, BKS Green Energy Corp. (BKSGEC).
“The LSPP is among four utility-scale solar power projects with aggregate capacity of 112 MWdc under RGEC’s current portfolio,” the company said.
RGEC is a joint venture between Tokyo-based Taisei Corp. and PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC). The solar facility, which previously won an award in the Second Green Energy Auction (GEA-2), is expected to power about 33,000 households and reduce 31,700 metric tons of carbon emissions.
Aside from its recently linked Isabela project, RGEC’s portfolio includes the 27 MWdc Dagohoy solar project, the 19.7 MWp San Jose solar project in Nueva Ecija, and the 25 MWdc Bugallon solar project in Pangasinan.
While the LSPP awaits its renewable energy (RE) output into the grid, the Yuchengco-led energy firm has also recently been tapped by Shell Energy Philippines, Inc. (SEPH) for the 20 MWp Tarlac 2 solar project.
RGEC also secured a ₱498-million term loan from Rizal Commercial and Banking Corp. (RCBC) for its planned solar facility in Nueva Ecija.
