Marcos has ordered the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to implement the no price increase policy, especially during the holiday season.
"Alinsunod sa kautusan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na hindi magkakaroon ng paggalaw sa mga presyo ng bilihin bago ang holiday season, inanunsiyo ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) na walang price increase sa basic at prime commodity sa bansa hanggang sa matapos ang kasalukuyang taon (In accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. that there will be no movement in the prices of goods before the holiday season, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced that there will be no price increase for basic and prime commodities in the country until the end of the current year)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said.
Castro also clarified on Tuesday, Oct. 28, that the directive was not "price freeze."
"The President ordered the DTI to continue monitoring and the coordination of stakeholders and manufacturers not to make any price increase for prime and basic commodities especially during holiday season up to the end of the year. More manufacturers and stakeholders are cooperating. It is not price freeze," Castro said.
According to the Palace official, Marcos made the directive before he departed Manila for Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, Oct. 25.
The President also told the DTI to ensure the strict monitoring and implementation of maximum suggested retail price for imported rice, especially food prices.
According to DTI Secretary Maria Cristina Aldeguer-Roque, all stakeholders have cooperated with the government to ensure that there will be no increase in the prices of goods in markets, especially with the upcoming holiday season.
"Nagtutulungan din ang lahat upang maibigay ang presyo nang naaayon at gusto ng ating mga kababayan (Everyone is also working together to provide prices that are fair and favorable to our fellow citizens)," Castro said.
