A resident of Happyland in Tondo, Manila, was rushed to the hospital after being struck in the head by a wooden plank by another resident last Oct. 24, the Manila Police District (MPD) said.
The police said the 29-year-old victim was assaulted by the 19-year-old suspect while conversing with his friends. The victim's father said his son needs to undergo immediate surgery for his injury.
The MPD said the attack is a possible case of retaliation after the victim's father admitted to saying hurtful words to one of the suspect's friends after he felt disrespected by them.
The victim allegedly tried to defend his dad, but was unexpectedly attacked instead.
“Ang tanong ko, bakit nakialam eh hindi naman siya 'yung inanong tao (My question is, why did he interfere when he wasn’t the one involved),” the father said, stressing that it was the suspect's intention to hurt his son.
“Kasi ako, magulang, sino ba naman hindi magagalit sa anak kong ginanyan eh halos patayin nila, syempre magsasalita ka nang hindi maganda (As a parent, who wouldn’t be angry seeing their child treated that way? Of course, you’d say something unpleasant),” he added.
The teenage suspect voluntarily surrendered himself and the wooden plank he used to hit the victim to the police.
Meanwhile, the suspect's mother claimed that the victim was drunk and allegedly threatened to shoot and kill her son and his friends.
“Yung anak ko po syempre parang sabi niya nagdilim na raw po 'yung paningin niya (My son said he lost control because his friend was hurt by them)," she explained.
She then apologized to the victim's family, saying that they will raise money for his hospital expenses.
The suspect is now facing frustrated murder charges.
