Leyte cops move to secure 'Undas'

TACLOBAN CITY – The Leyte Police Provincial Office has activated its comprehensive security and public safety plan under “Ligtas Undas 2025.”
Police Col. Dionisio Apas Jr., provincial director, announced the deployment of 551 PNP personnel in transport terminals, major thoroughfares, cemeteries, and places of convergence from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3, with intensified mobile and foot patrols, increased police presence, checkpoints, traffic management, and emergency response readiness, among other measures.
“Ligtas Undas is more than a security operation. It’s a promise to our people that they can honor their departed loved ones without fear,” Apas said.
“We are working hand-in-hand with local government units (LGUs), other government agencies, barangay officials, force multipliers, and advocacy groups to ensure a peaceful and dignified observance.”
Key components include police desks in cemeteries, transport hubs, and convergence points; traffic and crowd controls in high-density areas; public advisories on prohibited items, safety, and hotlines; coordination with PCG, BFP, LGUs, AFP, and volunteers; and real-time monitoring via social media and feedback channels.
The Leyte PPO reminded the public to remain vigilant, avoid bringing bladed weapons, liquor, or sound systems into cemeteries, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or hotline.
“We call on every Leyteño to be our partner in safety. Sama-sama tayong magbantay, magdasal, at magbigay-galang sa ating mga mahal sa buhay,” Apas added.
