De La Salle University and Adamson seek their fourth consecutive win when they take on their separate foes in the UAAP Season 88 men’s basketball tournament at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Refusing to fold despite the absence of Mason Amos and Kean Baclaan, the Green Archers (5-3) are looking forward to keeping their momentum going against the winless Red Warriors (0-8) in their 4:30 p.m. encounter.
University of Santo Tomas (5-3) and Adamson (4-4), meanwhile, ignite the men’s action in their 2 p.m. collision.
An overwhelming favorite coming into the game, La Salle is staying vigilant as the Archers face a UE side that is hungry to break the bad spell that stretches back from the previous season.
“We always have a score to settle with UE, everytime we played against them, they always had a breakout game, so it’s gonna be a roller-coaster experience for us, making sure we have so much respect with UE,” said head coach Topex Robinson following La Salle’s 86-77 win over UST last weekend.
“We going to treat the UE with respect… we’re going to come out there prepared, just like UE came out there and prepared for us, ganun din po kami,” added EJ Gollena, who was clutch in their last contest.
Aside from Gollena, second stringers Earl Abadam, Vhoris Marasigan, and Lebron Jhames Daep became key distributors on the offensive end, inserting ample support for Jacob Cortez, JC Macalalag and skipper Mike Phillips.
Phillips struggled offensively, but made sure he had a fair share in other departments and his leadership would be big as La Salle needed to pour it all before against the determined UE.
In their first-round encounter which the DLSU won, 111-110, the league slapped UE head coach Chris Gavina and Wello Lingolingo with their respective suspensions in the aftermath of an incident that resulted in the season-ending injury of La Salle guard Baclaan.
Meanwhile, Adamson, which is gradually rising from the mud, hopes to repeat against the feisty UST side to extend its string of victories to four.
The Falcons were the primary suspects in halting the Tigers’ three-game winning streak before the conclusion of the first half of the season.
Cedrick Manzano, Earl Medina, AJ Fransman and Mat Montebon try to steer the Olsen Racela-mentored squad, while UST targets to restore order with Collins Akowe, Gelo Crisostomo, Mark Llemit, Nic Cabañero, and Forthsky Padrigao at the forefront.
