Ex-QC lawmaker who will 'expose everything' in flood control mess backed out – Ombudsman Remulla
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said a former Quezon City lawmaker who wanted to expose “everything” on the flood control anomalies backed out and could no longer be contacted.
Even the person who acted as a go-between could neither be contacted, Remulla said during the online “Facts First” program hosted by journalist Christian Esguerra.
Last Oct. 22, Remulla divulged his talk with the former legislator on the flood control mess.
He said the scope of the flood control mess is already too vast. “Hindi lang sa QC, hindi lang sa Bulacan, pati sa Mindoro meron na (It's not just in Quezon City, it's not just in Bulacan, but also in Mindoro)."
Remulla said one of the cases that is under preliminary investigation now is the company of resigned Ako Bikol representative Zaldy Co of Sunwest, Inc.
He said they need to "pierce the veil of corporate fiction" in order to get to Co and see the "beneficial interest" of the projects.
Remulla, who served as congressman for Cavite from 2004 to 2013 and from 2019 to 2022, said that it is an unspoken rule and joke for members of Congress that "walang basagan ng trip (No spoiling of fun)."
"Magkakasama kayo doon, pero walang basagan ng trip. Hindi mo sila sasabihan na mali ang ginagawa nila. Trip nila yun eh. Pare-pareho lang kayo Congressman di ba? Pero ngayon nasa ibang position na tayo. Pwede na natin sila sabihan (You are all together there, but no spoiling of their fun. You cannot say that they are doing something wrong because that's what they like. You're all congressmen, right? But now we are in a different position. We can now tell them what's wrong)," he stressed.
When pressed, Remulla admitted that there are over 20 percent of the members of Congress who are liable for corruption. He did not elaborate.
