Thunderbelles stake unbeaten run vs Angels

ZUS Coffee stakes its unbeaten run when it clashes with Petro Gazz in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Match is at 4 p.m. with the Thunderbelles gunning for their fourth straight win in as many games to tighten their grip of the top spot in Pool B.
The race for the top three spots in Pool B remains tight as teams head into the final stretch of the preliminaries. Petro Gazz is just half a game behind ZUS Coffee at 3-1.
Akari (2-1) collides with winless Galeries Tower (0-4) in the 1:30 p.m. opener, while Creamline, sporting a 2-2 mark in the middle standings, tangles with Chery Tiggo (1-3) at 6:30 p.m.
The top three squads will advance to face the bottom three of Pool A in another single-round phase that will determine rankings for the knockout playoffs.
Despite riding a franchise-best start highlighted by their recent morale-boosting four-set win over the Cool Smashers, the Thunderbelles knew they couldn’t afford to get complacent.
Out to keep the momentum going for ZUS Coffee are import Anna DeBeer, AC Miner, Riza Nogales, The Gagate and setter Cloanne Mondonedo.
But Petro Gazz remains formidable, banking on back-to-back wins over Akari and Chery Tiggo to keep them at bay.
Brooke Van Sickle and Lindsey Vander Weide remain the Angels’ lethal weapon after the duo conspired for 50 points against the Crossovers, while support will also come from MJ Phillips and Myla Pablo.
Meanwhile, Akari looks to regroup quickly after a tough five-set loss to Petro Gazz when it faces a struggling but hungry Galeries Tower determined to end its slump.
Chery Tiggo, for its part, hopes to sustain its charge from its sweep of Galeries Tower that ended a three-game skid against a Creamline side determined to bounce back from a recent stumble.
