The Rotary Clubs of Makati Paseo de Roxas and Metro Iloilo recently hosted a tax awareness seminar for 165 business and accountancy students of the University of Iloilo.
The tax seminar aims to prepare them for their critical role as future accounting and auditing professionals in the private and government sectors.
Seminar keynote speaker was Marivic del Pilar, president and general manager of Victory Liner Inc.
“Initiatives like this equip young professionals not only with academic knowledge but also with the practical tools required to thrive in today’s competitive business landscape,” Del Pilar said.
“More than just compliance, taxation is about responsibility and accountability which redounds to nation building in the long term.”
She exhorted the students to think of taxation not as an afterthought but a strategic consideration in every business model.
Del Pilar stressed three takeaways from the seminar – knowledge is power, compliance is strategy, and integrity is non-negotiable.
Organizers said the tax awareness seminar is derived from the BIR tax educational program launched by Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr.
