The event, themed “Galaw-Galaw Pilipinas!,” was held on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Multipurpose Hall in Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa, Quezon City.
Through its Non-Communicable Diseases Coordinator (NCDC), Dr. Jean Pauline Tee, the city government expressed its full support for the initiative, which gathered health professionals, students, and community members to raise awareness on heart disease prevention and healthy lifestyles.
Tee said that cardiovascular diseases remain among the leading causes of death in Quezon City, emphasizing the importance of continuous collaboration with the PHA and other health partners to strengthen community-based health programs.

PHA President Dr. Walid Amil said that based on World Health Organization (WHO) data, nearly four in 10 Filipino adults and one in 10 children are overweight or obese.
He added that the World Heart Federation (WHF) also projects that by 2030, obesity could affect one in five women and two in seven men worldwide.
“Obesity increases the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, elevated bad cholesterol levels, and type 2 diabetes. Around 38 percent of Filipino adults have a high body mass index,” he said.
"To the public, to the residents of Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa, you are our bridge to the World Heart Day movement. We have one heart—let’s take care of it together. Let’s all be part of this: don’t miss a beat, move, move Philippines!" Amil added.
The PHA cited WHO data showing that cardiovascular diseases claim 17.9 million lives each year, almost half of all deaths from non-communicable diseases.
It added that in the Philippines, heart-related illnesses caused 112,789 deaths in 2023, or about 19 percent of total fatalities.
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa also expressed support for the initiative, reminding participants to make heart care a daily habit and to commit to healthier choices under the Bagong Pilipinas movement.
“Let us take this day, not only to celebrate but to commit. Commit to a healthier lifestyle, commit to stronger systems, commit to hearts to live longer, because in Bagong Pilipinas, every life matters,” he said.
