PNP steps up drive vs overseas job scams

Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), vowed on Monday, Oct. 27, to further intensify the campaign against individuals and groups behind overseas job scams.
Nartatez issued the statement after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported 222 active requests for assistance from Filipinos located in scam hub areas.
He said the PNP is in constant coordination with the DFA, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and its foreign law enforcement counterparts, in pursuing those involved in luring Filipinos into illegal online operations abroad.
“We are committed to tracking down and prosecuting those who prey on our kababayans through fraudulent job offers and human trafficking schemes. We are expanding our coordination with international agencies to dismantle transnational scam networks,” said Nartatez.
He said they are also working closely with PNP counterparts in Southeast Asia to identify recruiters and financiers involved in these criminal activities.
Nartatez said they will assist Filipinos in Myanmar who are seeking help from the government, “Our utmost priority is to ensure their safe return to the Philippines.”
Nartatez said coordination is also being done with the DMW to intensify public awareness drives through social media, community forums, and information caravans to help Filipinos recognize and avoid fake job offers.
“We urge the public to remain alert and verify job offers they encounter—especially online—and to avoid easily trusting individuals or groups offering overseas employment opportunities,” said Nartatez.
