DAGUPAN CITY – A man wanted for the murder of a police officer was arrested after 28 years in hiding in Barangay Mapalad, Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija, on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 26.
The 57-year-old suspect was apprehended by the police on warrants for murder and frustrated murder.
The suspect was a former member of the notorious Atacador Group gun-for-hire and robbery syndicate operating in Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Cavite, and Nueva Vizcaya provinces.
He shot and killed PO1 Ronald Diamat and wounded SPO2 Samuel Bulan who were serving a warrant of arrest against him in 1997.
The suspect was also a suspect in the killing of a security guard in Cabanatuan City in the late 1990s.
Police Brig. Gen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr., Police Regional Office-3 director, cited operating units for arresting the suspect.
"After nearly three decades on the run, the arrest of the suspect sends a clear message: Justice may be delayed, but it will never be denied."
