THE Iloilo Provincial Capitol (Tara Yap)
ILOILO CITY – The Department of Public Works and Highways has determined that the Iloilo Provincial Capitol is structurally safe following the recent series of earthquakes.
“There is no immediate concern and the building is considered safe for continued occupancy and operation,” said DPWH-6 Regional Director Jose Al Fruto.
The structural tests were conducted when cracks were found during initial inspections by the team of Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig.
The DPWH-6 conducted two types of test – the rebound hammer and an ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), which measured concrete strength and crack depth, respectively.
“The observed cracks are superficial and limited to the plaster finish,” Fruto said in his letter to Andig.
The tests were conducted when the administration of Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. requested it to ensure the stability of the government building that serves as the seat of power of the Iloilo provincial government.
