Embassy of Israel in Manila celebrates Jewish festival Sukkat

Despite a soft drizzle outside, the Embassy of Israel in Manila was filled with warmth and joy as it hosted Sukkat Shalom, a simple and heartfelt gathering that welcomed members of the media to celebrate and experience the spirit of Sukkot.
Ambassador Dana Kursh opened the event by expressing her gratitude to everyone who attended despite the rainy weather. “It means a lot to us to share a piece of Israeli culture in such a personal and meaningful way. Moments like this help us build stronger connections and understanding,” Ambassador Kursh said.
Guests were invited to step inside a small sukka, a temporary hut symbolizing shelter, resilience, and gratitude. What made this sukka special was the involvement of Jewish children from the local synagogue, who decorated it with bright, handmade drawings and colorful paper ornaments. The children eagerly hung their decorations inside the sukka, filling the space with hope and joy, making the experience even more meaningful for everyone present. Rabbi Yossi Marom shared the deeper meaning behind the celebration, explaining how in Judaism the sukka serves as a reminder of life’s journey, its fragility, and the strength found in community and faith, and the importance of remaining joyful.

The event lifted spirits despite the rain, turning Sukkat Shalom into more than just a cultural gathering. It became a space for connection, creativity, and shared hope. Under the colorful canopy of the sukka, attendees took photos and exchanged stories. There was a peaceful sense of togetherness—one conversation, one smile, one shared moment at a time.
Following the celebration, Ambassador Dana Kursh held a press briefing with media representatives to provide updates on the latest developments in the U.S.-led peace process between Israel and Hamas and the tremendous hope to have the hostages back home. During the briefing, she emphasized the importance of pursuing peace as the ultimate goal.
“We are longing for peace so much. And we want to live in peace with our neighbors. That’s the end game. There’s no other solution,” Ambassador Kursh said.
“The road to peace is never easy, but we remain committed to working toward a future where all people can live safely and with dignity, and we are hoping and waiting to hug our loved ones,” she added.
