The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) visited the Quezon City Jail Female Dormitory (QCJFD) to determine living conditions of the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) belonging to the LGBTQ group, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.
During the activity, the DSWD spent time to understand the life experiences and recognize the unique needs and challenges faced by the LGBTQ community within the detention setting.
QCJFD warden Chief Insp. Lourvina Abrazado welcomed Undersecretary Elen Pasion of the Presidential Special Committee on LGBTQIA+ Affairs, a National Inter-Agency Committee on Diversity and Inclusion under the DSWD.
She noted that the initiative forms part of the committee’s continuing efforts to promote gender sensitivity, equality and human rights, with insights gathered serving as valuable input in crafting inclusive policies and legislation that ensure protection and empowerment for the LGBTQIA+ sector.
During the visit, the QCJFD personnel and PDL presented a short program that showcased not only their talents and craftsmanship but also the facility’s strong commitment to inclusion and respect for every individual, particularly members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Abrazado said that the visit concluded through a guided facility tour led by assistant warden Insp. Concepcion Bacolod, highlighting the QCJFD’s ongoing gender-responsive initiatives under the “No Woman Left Behind” program in partnership with the Quezon City Gender and Development Office.
