A brief ash emission transpired at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano on Monday afternoon, Oct. 27, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to Phivolcs, the event took place from 1:48 p.m. to 1:52 p.m. and produced grayish plumes that rose around 150 meters above the crater before drifting westward.
The phenomenon was recorded through the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory’s IP camera in Lower Masulog.
The agency said the incident indicates ongoing volcanic activity within the volcano’s summit crater, consistent with its current state of unrest.
Phivolcs said Alert Level 2 prevails over Kanlaon, which means the volcano remains under moderate magmatic or hydrothermal activity that could lead to sudden phreatic or steam-driven eruptions.
