LPA to bring rains over parts of Visayas, Mindanao — PAGASA
A low-pressure area (LPA) embedded within the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is expected to bring rains over some areas in the Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Oct. 26.
The LPA was spotted inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), about 210 kilometers east of General Santos City as of 3 a.m.
The ITCZ is an area where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, often bringing rain clouds and thunderstorms.
Although it has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said the agency will continue to monitor the LPA as it is expected to bring a high chance of rains over the Visayas and Mindanao.
On Monday, Oct. 27, rains will affect the western sections of the Visayas and Mindanao, as well as Bicol Region and Mimaropa.
Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected particularly in Palawan, Antique, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Siquijor, and Zamboanga del Norte.
By Tuesday, Oct. 28, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will prevail over Central and Southern Luzon.
From Wednesday to Thursday, Oct. 29 to 30, Batanes and Cagayan will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms.
PAGASA advised the public to remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides, especially in areas prone to flooding.
