'Tuloy ba?' Pageant fans await announcement on 74th Miss Universe Competition following the death of Thailand's Queen Sirikit
Following the death of Queen Sirikit of Thailand on Oct. 25, pageant fans around the world are awaiting the official announcement on whether the staging of the 74th Miss Universe Competition in Bangkok will proceed on Nov. 21.
More than 120 candidates from around the world are expected to arrive in Thailand for the competition. Tourists are also likely to come in time for the prestigious pageant.
But fans expressed concern about its staging following the death of Queen Sirikit of Thailand on Oct. 25. She was 93.
Following the queen's demise, Thailand encourages its people to mourn “as they deem appropriate.”
“In our capacity as Her Majesty’s subjects, I ask for cooperation,” said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul in a report by Khaosod English. “We should reciprocate her immense benevolence.”
Meanwhile, entertainment venues and service establishments have been asked to suspend or scale down entertainment activities for 30 days as a mark of respect during the initial mourning period, the same report added.
This is the fourth time Thailand has hosted the Miss Universe Competition: 1992, 2005, 2018, and 2025.
