The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and a shear line are bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to large parts of the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, October 25.
In its latest weather forecast, PAGASA said the ITCZ is currently affecting Palawan, the Visayas, and Mindanao, while the shear line is influencing weather conditions over Extreme Northern Luzon.
Forecast weather conditions
In Mindanao, the Negros Island Region, and Palawan, PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected due to the ITCZ. The weather bureau warned of possible flash floods or landslides caused by moderate to, at times, heavy rains.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the shear line — which may also result in flash floods or landslides in affected areas — are also expected in Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.
In Aurora and Quezon, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected due to the easterlies. Residents are advised to stay alert for potential flash floods and landslides.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the ITCZ are expected in the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao. Severe thunderstorms may lead to localized flooding or landslides, PAGASA said.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have generally fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies, although isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may occur due to the easterlies.
PAGASA urged the public to remain vigilant, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides, and to monitor official weather bulletins for updates. Fisherfolk and residents in coastal and mountainous communities are also advised to take precautionary measures against possible adverse weather conditions.
