ILOILO CITY – A reading corner was opened for the indigenous Ati children in this city.
Coinciding with National Indigenous Peoples Month, the book nook was launched at the Ati Community and Children Center in Barangay Lanit in Jaro District on Oct. 23.
This was one of the continuing efforts of the Panay Indigenous Culture Advocacy Group that includes cultural workers Ramon Ramirez and daughter Kyla Agnes Ramirez, who have worked and facilitated with different indigenous groups in Panay Island.
During the launching, Kyla read a story to the Ati children. The storytelling session was an interactive exchange as the young Ati children were eager participants.
The book nook project for the native Ati children wa conducted in partnership with Office of Iloilo City Vice Mayor Lady Julie Grace “Love-Love” Baronda, the River Plains Integrated School led by Principal Raymundo Tolentino, and Pastor Rogelio Elosendo. Barangay Councilor Janjan Sierra was also present.
