ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed more than P23 million in food aid for people affected by massive flooding in Capiz province due to tropical cyclone ‘’Ramil’’ last weekend.
As of Oct. 24, the DSWD distributed more than P21.27 million worth of family food packs and P1.74 million ready-to-eat food.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, with Special Assistant to the President Secretary Antonio Lagdameo Jr., led the distribution in evacuation centers last Tuesday and Thursday.
Around 49,751 families in 271 barangays were affected by flash flood in Capiz.
The municipality of Panay has the most number of affected families with 12,155, followed by 9,041 in President Roxas town, 8,545 in Sigma, 6,592 in Pontevedra, and 5,011 in Roxas City
The DSWD-6 under OIC Regional Director Joselito Estember is coordinating with local government units (LGUs) after Gatchalian announced that each affected family will receive P10,000 financial aid to rebuild homes damaged by flood.
