Last August, Converge announced the landing of the Bifrost Cable System in Davao. They expect operations to begin by the end of 2025.
This could be a big deal, as the Bifrost can give the country a significant network boost, delivering ultra-low latency and high-capacity bandwidth. In short, a really fast internet connection.
The Bifrost is a trans-Pacific system that runs from the United States (Specifically at California and Oregon), Guam, Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines.
"This milestone is more than a technological achievement—it’s a national enabler. With this critical infrastructure in place, we are not only enabling digital transformation but also creating new trade pathways and opportunities for the Philippines," said Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO and co-founder, Converge.
The Bifrost should be able to deliver terabit per second bandwidth, which will be ideal for hyperscalers, data centers, and enterprises. Low-latency would also mean faster services for financial institutions, gaming, and cloud services.
So far, everything about the Bifrost seems to be just in time as the Philippines is being positioned as a digital hub for Asia and a time where enterprises are using more and more AI.
Uy believes the installation of the Bifrost system will make the country a formidable player in the digital economy.
