Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered police units to intensify the operations against illegal and unauthorized fireworks manufacturing facilities following the fatal explosion at a factory in Norzagaray, Bulacan that claimed two lives on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
This, as he assured that investigation into the explosion is ongoing as the PNP works closely with the Bureau of Fire Protection and local officials of Bulacan to review the factory’s compliance with safety and permit requirements.
“Our local police units, in coordination with the BFP, Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO), and the LGU, are currently gathering all necessary evidence. Our investigators are also interviewing witnesses and reviewing the factory’s compliance documents. Rest assured, we will get to the bottom of this incident,” said Nartatez.
Two people died in an explosion at an illegal fireworks factory in Barangay Partida, Norzagaray town.The blast occurred around 11 a.m. and triggered a fire.
Authorities later found the charred remains of the victims. The factory was reportedly operating without permits, and the cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
“This tragedy should never have happened. We are fully committed to working with regulatory agencies to enforce safety standards and protect our communities,” said Nartatez.
He then issued a stern warning to owners and operators of illegal fireworks manufacturing facilities.
“To all factory owners, please follow the regulation and prioritize the safety of your clients and employees. We will not hesitate to take legal action against violators who put lives at risk,” said Nartatez.
