The sixth season of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippines eSports GT Championship reached its climax at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay, where newcomer Victor Ancheta was crowned champion following an intense national finals. His strong performance earned him the championship title and a spot on Team Philippines for the upcoming Asia Finals in Thailand. He will be joined by runner-up Enzo Ison, a returning contender from last year’s Asia Finals, and third-place finisher Matthew Ang, who also represented the country in 2023.
Ancheta, who qualified third out of more than 250 participants during the opening stages, showed consistency and composure throughout the quarterfinals, semifinals, and national finals. The event drew more than 20,000 spectators over the weekend, solidifying its reputation as one of the country’s most competitive sim-racing tournaments.
The national finals featured 11 racers competing in three races, each with different car and track combinations. Participants tackled the Toyota Supra Racing Concept ’18 on Kyoto Driving Park, the Toyota GR Yaris on Colorado Springs, and the Toyota GR010 Hybrid on Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps under dynamic weather conditions. Tire wear, fuel consumption, and score multipliers made consistency crucial in determining the overall winner.
Ancheta finished second in the first race and maintained a steady pace across the remaining rounds. His ability to manage tire strategy and maintain precision through the final stages proved decisive in earning the national title with 72 points. Ison secured second place with 67.5 points, while Ang completed the podium with 61.5 points.
Special awards were also presented, with Ancheta receiving the Crowd Favorite Award, Jether Miole winning Best Overtake, Ison earning Smooth Operator, and Ang taking the Pole Position Award.
“I feel happy that I won the championship, and I feel honored to be one of the drivers to be representing the Philippines. I am looking forward to going up against Asia's fastest drivers and see where I stand up against them,” said Ancheta.
Ison added, “It feels great to be on the podium and that I will have the chance to represent the country once again in Thailand next month. I’m looking forward for another fun experience and hopefully get a great result for Team Philippines at the Asia Finals.”
Ang shared, “I felt disappointed since I genuinely felt I could become champion this year, but now I feel grateful and empowered to perform well in the Asia Finals. I’m looking forward to representing my country again and more importantly, seeing my old competitors from 2023 and seeing how much I improved in two years.”
The tournament was sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and supported by official partners including Petron, GT Radial, Seiko, Toyota Financial Services Philippines, Tuason Racing, and several other sponsors. Toyota Motor Philippines confirmed that Ancheta, Ison, and Ang will represent Team Philippines at the TGR Asia Finals in Thailand on November 23.
