Robbery-drug suspect arrested in Rizal

A notorious jeepney robber, who was also involved in illegal drug trade, was arrested in Taytay, Rizal, authorities said on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Personnel of the Taytay Municipal Police Station conducted an operation following numerous tags and reports from concerned citizens on its Facebook page of a video allegedly capturing an actual jeepney robbery incident, where the suspect was allegedly holding an ice pick.
It said that the incident caused fear among commuters regularly passing through Taytay.
Authorities immediately intensified their pursuit, with operatives disguising themselves as commuters to catch the suspect in the act.
While conducting the operation, another concerned resident informed them about a man in Taytay who was reportedly involved in the use and sale of illegal drugs in their neighborhood, causing disturbance and fear among residents.
Upon investigation, they discovered that the man being reported for drug activities was the same person they are trying to catch involved in a series of jeepney robberies.
A buy-bust operation was immediately launched in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). They arrested the suspect and recovered suspected shabu with a total weight of around nine grams, valued at P61,200.
Meanwhile, while processing the suspect, police noticed his cellphone ringing repeatedly, prompting one of the officers to answer it, thinking the caller might be a possible drug buyer.
However, police discovered that the caller was the real owner of the phone and a victim of a robbery earlier that day. The victim went to the police station and confirmed that the suspect had stolen his phone. It was immediately returned and the victim thanked the police.
Another victim who learned about the arrest went to the police station and confirmed that the suspect had stabbed her relative during a robbery five days earlier.
The suspect is now detained at the Taytay Municipal Police Station Custodial Facility in Barangay Dolores.
Authorities are urging other victims to visit the Taytay Municipal Police Station to file additional complaints against the suspect.
