President Marcos has appointed former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez as the new chairperson of the National Commission of Senior Citizens, Malacañang said.
Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro confirmed Gutierrez's designation on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
"Confirmed," she said in a Palace briefing.
Gutierrez will serve as the chairperson until Sept. 17, 2031.
When asked for the President's reason in appointing the former Ombudsman, Castro said "what the President wants when he appoints someone is that the person must be an excellent and a capable leader."
Gutierrez served as Ombudsman from 2005 to 2011 and as Justice secretary under former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
