- "What's important is that we move decisively and get to the bottom of this biggest scandal, which is the floodgates caused by syndicated criminals," Sen. Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito said.
Senate Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito said on Wednesday, October 22 he has no issue as to whoever will lead the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee which is now investigating the anomalies in the government’s flood control projects.
“Ang posisyon ko po, kahit sino ang maupo, ang mahalaga ay malaman natin ang tunay na mga salarin. Dahil ang taumbayan hanggang ngayon ay naghihintay ng kasagutan (My position is that whoever chairs the panel, it’s important to know who are the perpetrators. Because the people until now are waiting for answers),” Ejercito said in a statement.
“Whoever chairs the Blue Ribbon Committee, I can work with,” the senator said.
Ejercito earlier intimated his dissatisfaction in the ongoing investigation of the panel into the anomalous flood control projects and reportedly threatened to bolt out of the Senate Majority bloc.
This eventually led to Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, who chairs the panel, to resign as head of the blue ribbon panel, which was previously headed by Sen. Rodante Marcoleta.
On Tuesday, Ejercito said Senate President Vicente Sotto III had already clarified their stance on the ongoing hearings and that is why he has no qualms on having Lacson back as the Senate blue ribbon committee chairman.
“What’s important is that we move decisively and get to the bottom of this biggest scandal, which is the floodgates caused by syndicated criminals. Ever since I’ve been firm that the focus should be the modus so we can introduce legislation that will prevent this kind of crime from happening again,” the lawmaker said.
“Ako po, kilala ng mga kasama ko sa Senado, trabaho lang tayo (My colleagues in the Senate know me, we just want to work),” Ejercito said.
“I can work with Sen. Lacson, or even erstwhile Blue Ribbon Chair Sen. Marcoleta, or whoever will be chosen to lead the committee,” he said.
