ILOILO CITY – The Iloilo provincial government has postponed the real property tax (RPT) tax increase scheduled for next year.
The Iloilo Provincial Board approved Provincial Ordinance No. 2025-342 on third and final reading on Tuesday, Oct. 21, sponsored by second district Provincial Board Member June S. Mondejar, halting the implementation of the RPT tax hike originally scheduled for January.
Mondejar said that the implementation was reconsidered due to financial constraints faced by residents and businesses still reeling from the impact of the pandemic.
It was scheduled for 2028 to coincide with the 2028 general revision of property assessments mandated by Republic Act No. 12001 or the Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act.
The provincial government made the move after the Iloilo City government was criticized for seeking to fully implement the astronomical 300 percent RPT hike which has yet to implement the 60 percent rate.
