DAVAO CITY – Two bomb threats rocked this city on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
The first bomb threat was reported at around 10:20 a.m. at the Davao Wisdom Academy on F. Torres St., Barangay 19-B.
The Davao City Police Office said they received a call from Central 911 about an alleged bomb inside the school premises.
Initial investigation revealed that a 24-year-old school teacher and resident of Barangay 11-B received a Facebook message from an account named Garcia at 9:59 a.m., warning that a bomb might be placed in the school premises.
The school teacher said Garcia described a suspicious man wearing blue clothes and carrying a black bag, prompting teachers to suspend classes and evacuate students to a safe area.
Part of the chat read: “Good afternoon, Teacher/Principal. I need to tell you something urgent. I saw a suspicious person near or on campus, and I’m worried there may be a possible bomb. They were inside Davao Wisdom School around 9:23 a.m. Please contact the police and secure the area immediately. I’m really worried about everyone’s safety.”
The DCPO, Mobile Patrol Unit, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to the scene and conducted clearing operations.
A CECU Blaster Alpha Team declared the area negative for explosives after thorough paneling and clearing operations at around 11:44 a.m. Deployed personnel pulled out following the termination of the operation.
The second bomb threat was reported around 1:10 p.m. at Mintal Comprehensive National Senior High School on San Francisco St. in Barangay Mintal in Tugbok District.
Police said the school’s official Facebook page received a message from an account named Kozo Wagner at around 12:45 p.m. claiming that a bomb had been planted in the school and could detonate without warning.
Classes were immediately suspended and teachers safely evacuated students to a safer area while police cordoned off the area.
The CECU Blaster Alpha Team conducted paneling and clearing operations and declared the site negative for explosives at around 2:10 p.m.
The DCPO terminated deployment and assured they would conduct school visitations to raise awareness about bomb threats and safety measures.
DCPO acting director Police Col. Mannan Caracas Muarip warned that making or spreading bomb threats is a serious criminal offense under Presidential Decree No. 1727, which penalizes offenders with up to five years imprisonment, a fine of up to P40,000, or both.
“Public safety is our top priority. The DCPO will exhaust all legal means to identify and prosecute those who cause alarm and fear through false threats,” Muarip said.
He urged everyone to be responsible citizens and work together to keep the city safe and secure.
Muarip reminded the public that bomb threats, even when intended as pranks, cause unnecessary fear, disrupt public order, and waste critical emergency resources.
