2NE1's Park Bom sues YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk over unpaid profits
K-pop group 2NE1 member Park Bom has sued Yang Hyun-suk, founder of YG Entertainment, for unpaid profits.
On Oct. 22, Park Bom posted on Instagram about the lawsuit, asking people to “please investigate exactly what YG did to Park Bom. Thank you.”
In a photo she uploaded, Park Bom is listed as plaintiff while Yang Hyun-suk is the defendant with the charge as “fraud and embezzlement.”
“Purpose of complaint The defendant has not paid the plaintiff the profits that should have been rightfully paid to her for a long period of time, so I want a thorough investigation and legal punishment for this,” she wrote.
Park Bom claimed that Yang Hyun-suk “has not rightfully paid the profits generated from all activities in which the plaintiff participated, including music releases, performances, broadcasts, advertisements, events, lyrics, and compositions.”
She claimed that the unpaid amount from YG Entertainment totaled 642.72 trillion won ($448.8 billion).
This represented “the profit that the plaintiff should have rightfully received.”
“Despite this, YG Entertainment did not provide settlement details, and not a single proper payment was made to the plaintiff. As a result, the plaintiff suffered serious economic loss and mental damage, which is a clear act of fraud and embezzlement,” she said.
As evidence, she listed contracts and income-related documents, music release and performance participation records, advertisement and event appearance records, text and email conversations and bankbook transaction details.
“We request a thorough investigation and strict punishment for the defendant's illegal actions,” according to her.
After the post was made, a representative from D-Nation Entertainment, Park Bom’s agency, told Korean media, "We cannot even control Park Bom. We are currently checking the details of the lawsuit against (YG Entertainment's general producer Yang Hyun-suk)."
In August, the agency announced that Park Bom “will not be able to participate in 2NE1's future schedules. We recently received advice from medical staff that sufficient rest and stability are necessary, and after careful discussion, we have inevitably made this decision.”
