A man was arrested by the Manila Police District (MPD) after allegedly stealing the motorcycle of a gasoline boy in Malate, Manila.
According to police reports, the suspect approached the victim and claimed that his own motorcycle had broken down.
He then asked to borrow the victim’s motorcycle under the pretense of seeking assistance.
Trusting the suspect, the victim agreed, and the man left behind what appeared to be his non-working motorcycle as a guarantee.
However, the suspect never returned.
The victim later discovered that the supposedly broken motorcycle had been abandoned and filed a complaint with the police.
During their investigation, authorities found a parcel in the compartment of the abandoned motorcycle.
Using the contact number written on the parcel, police reached out and spoke to the person listed, who turned out to be the suspect’s live-in partner.
This led officers to the suspect’s location.
In a follow-up operation, MPD operatives successfully apprehended the suspect, who now faces charges of estafa under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether the suspect has carried out similar schemes on other victims.
