LTFRB suspends operation of 22 buses for illegal terminal, non-compliance with passenger comfort requirement
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has suspended the operation of 22 passenger buses for various violations that include the use of an illegal terminal and alleged non-compliance with the requirement for clean and comfortable passenger terminals.
LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said those suspended for a maximum of 30 days were 17 passenger buses operated by the Elavil Tours, Phils, Inc. and five buses owned by AMV Travel and Tours, Inc.
“We already issued a show cause order informing them of the suspension and their need to explain in writing why their franchise should not be suspended or revoked,” said Mendoza.
“This should serve as a stern warning to transport companies to comply with the minimum standard for safe operations and maintaining passenger-friendly stations and terminals,” he added.
In the case of Elavil Tours, Inc., no less than acting Department of Transportation Secretary Lopez ordered the LTFRB to look into the violations of the companies in his recent inspections of bus terminals in Metro Manila.
The company was caught by Secretary Lopez for using an illegal terminal in Pasay City which was previously ordered closed by the DOTr.
Mendoza said the non-compliance with the minimum requirement for passenger safety and comfort was also the reason behind the suspension of operation of five units of buses of AMV Travel and Tours, Inc.
Mendoza, however, assured of due process as the two companies will be given the chance to explain in a hearing scheduled on October 22 at the LTFRB main office in Quezon City.
