Cignal snapped its two-game skid in style by routing PLDT, 25-17, 25-22, 25-21, in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Playing with an all-Filipino lineup after dropping Greek import Eva Chantava, the Super Spikers rediscovered their old fiery form with their smashing plays anchored on Erika Santos and Ishie Lalongisip on their way to their first win in three games.
Cignal’s victory also halted PLDT’s impressive 15-game winning streak while also handing its first loss in three games.
“Nakakatuwa kasi bumalik na ulit yung laro nila,” said Cignal coach Shaq Delos Santos. “I’m sure matagal na rin nilang nami-miss yung ganitong laro, especially against PLDT team pa.”
Santos, who poured all her 17 points on attacks, echoed the sentiment and added that their previous defeat never dampened their spirit in going to this match.
“Thankful ako na nakukuha na namin yung groove namin. Hindi naging hadlang yung mga losses namin. Mas lalo pa kaming na-inspire para ipanalo yung game ngayon,” she said.
Lalongisip provided ample support by firing 12 kills and three blocks to finish with 15 points, while Tin Tiamzon and Roselyn Doria combined for 17 points.
Savi Davison scored 14 points, while import Anastasiia Bavyikina added 10 for PLDT, which was outgunned by Cignal’s 50 attacks compared to its 34 team kills.
Earlier, Choco Mucho swept Nxled, 25-23, 25-19, 25-22, behind the efforts of Marlee Smith and Isa Molde.
Smith dropped 20 points on 18 kills and two blocks, while Molde added 11 for the Flying Titans, who improved to 2-1.
Paola Martinez was the lone bright spot for the Chameleons with 20 points, but her efforts went in vain as the team fell into a 0-3 hole.
