Albay broadcaster passes way after gun attack

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Hard-hitting radio commentator Noel Samar passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, a day after he was shot by an unidentified gunman in Albay.

In an interview with the Manila Bulletin, Samar’s nephew confirmed that the broadcaster underwent surgery on Monday night and was transferred to the recovery room.

However, he was revived two times on Tuesday morning, eventually succumbing in the afternoon.

Samar was shot by a still unidentified gunman on the national highway in Barangay Morera, Guinobatan on Monday.

The attack sent shockwaves in the local media community.

Police have yet to release any information regarding the identity of the suspect or the possible motive behind the shooting.

Samar’s family believes the incident may have been work-related due to his outspoken commentaries.

The Police Regional Office-5 has formed a Special Investigation Task Group to conduct an in-depth probe into the incident and bring the perpetrator to justice.

Samar’s family has yet to issue an official statement regarding his passing.
