Ombudsman Remulla discovers 204 'midnight appointees' at OMB
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla on Monday, Oct. 20, said he discovered there are 204 suspected "midnight appointees" in the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB).
"I will ask these 204 people to re-apply because they still have a six-month probationary period,” Remulla said during a press briefing.
He warned that if the 204 appointees who were hired last July will not re-apply, they will be treated as “midnight appointees."
Then Ombudsman Samuel R. Martires retired last July 27 after completing his seven-year term. Remulla was appointed Ombudsman last Oct. 7.
When asked what OMB positions were filled up last July, Remulla said: “Lahat ng klaseng positions (all kinds of positions)."He said he has asked the Civil Service Commission for assistance in evaluating the cases of the 204 appointees.
