NEGROS Island police extend aid to Cebu earthquake victims.
BACOLOD CITY – The Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) extended assistance to people affected by the Sept. 30 earthquake in northern Cebu province, particularly Bogo City.
A 10-man team led by Police Capt. Everly Canto, chief of the Community Affairs Section, turned over relief goods through PRO-7 (Central Visayas) in Cebu City on Friday, Oct. 17 – 3,550 kilograms of rice packed in 61 sacks of 50 kilos, 19 sacks of 25 kilos, and 15 sacks of five kilos, and 48 boxes of assorted essential goods.
Police Col. Antonietto Cañete, chief regional staff of PRO-7, and Police Lt. Col. Mia Rose Burlat, deputy chief of the Regional Community Affairs and Development Division, received the donation, a part of PRO-NIR “Oplan: Tendering Assistance With Integrity and Dedication" (TAWID) program.
Donations were collected from the regional office, Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB), Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, Siquijor Provincial Police Office, Bacolod City Police Office, and Maritime Unit.
Police Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR director, stressed that police service knows no boundaries, especially in times of need. Through this program, he said that they showed that true public service means extending compassion and support beyond law enforcement.
