The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) continued to advance its long-running campaign for road safety through a series of recent educational activities. These efforts highlight the organization’s ongoing role in fostering responsible road use and collaboration between the motorcycle industry and local communities.
Teaching the youth
In one of its recent programs, MDPPA partnered with the Shigi Shigi Riders Club, Inc. in Mandaluyong City to conduct a road safety seminar and poster-making contest at Highway Hills Integrated High School. The event gathered 146 students from Grades 8 to 12 and focused on essential topics such as safe driving practices, personal and vehicle safety, pedestrian awareness, and traffic discipline. The initiative aimed to integrate road safety education into early learning and strengthen awareness among younger road users.
“Teaching road safety at a young age is critical because it lays the foundation for responsible behavior on the road. By reaching students as early as high school, we can influence not just how they move through traffic today but also how they will drive, ride, and walk safely in the future. It’s about shaping a generation that values caution, respect, and awareness as everyday habits,” said Richard Victoria, Road Safety Advocate and MDPPA Road Safety Committee Secretary.
Beyond classroom learning, the poster-making contest encouraged creativity while reinforcing the lessons of responsible mobility. MDPPA emphasized that such programs help students understand their role in promoting safety and accountability within their communities.
What riders miss
Another activity brought MDPPA’s advocacy to Cavite as part of Motorsiklo Xklusibo’s anniversary celebration, “Walang Mintis sa Disisais,” held at Megaworld Maple Grove in General Trias. The session focused on real-world challenges riders face, including frequently ignored traffic signs, intersection safety, and proper helmet use.
“Sometimes, it's the little things we overlook that put us most at risk,” said Victoria. “Many riders miss important traffic signs or forget how to navigate intersections safely, even if they’ve been riding for years. That’s why we focus on real-world issues like these during our seminars, which beginner and veteran riders alike encounter every day but may not always pay attention to.”
The Cavite event also drew motorcycle enthusiasts and industry partners through exhibits, dealer booths, and test rides of new motorcycle models. While these elements added to the event’s appeal, the core message remained centered on safety awareness and education.
These activities reflect MDPPA’s continuous commitment to community outreach and public safety, which remain relevant today as motorcycle use continues to grow in urban and provincial areas. With more Filipinos turning to motorcycles for mobility, the need for consistent education on road safety and responsible riding has become increasingly vital.
For more than five decades, MDPPA has worked closely with government agencies, schools, and local riding clubs to promote safety and awareness across different sectors. Through initiatives such as its Tropang MAALAM campaign, which stands for Tropang Modelo, Alerto, Aktibo, Ligtas, Aalalay, at Matalino, MDPPA seeks to build a generation of riders who are not only skilled but also conscious of their impact on others.
As traffic density, infrastructure expansion, and environmental challenges continue to evolve, the organization emphasizes that road safety must remain a shared responsibility. By equipping communities with the right knowledge and values, MDPPA believes that the culture of responsible riding can be sustained well beyond the classroom or the road.
