- The three share their thoughts on love, life, aging, and being immortal.
Having done numerous romantic films, Carlo Aquino, Bing Pimentel, and Jasmine Curtis-Smith are not new to so-called happy-ever-after endings.
They will have a chance to try something different in the new Netflix film, ''The Time That Remains."
Directed by Adolfo Alix Jr, the film follows the story of Matias (Carlo), an immortal Kalinga warrior who lived through centuries in peace until he meets the mortal Lilia (Jasmine and Bing in different timelines) during the Japanese occupation.
As mortals do, Lilia's life will fade away, while Matias will remain immortal.
In an intimate interview at the Ayala Museum last Oct. 17, Bing, Carlo, and Jasmine shared which theme resonated with them the most.
"Love, I think kasi sa buong buhay ni Lilia ayun yung umiiral para sa kanya. Love for her parents, but at the same time, the irony of the love she has for her parents. And then she discovered the love she has for Matias. She learns to love her own life and career," Jasmine said.
(Love, I think, because throughout Lilia's life, that's all that exists for her. Love for her parents, but at the same time, the irony of the love she has for her parents. And then she discovered the love she has for Matias. She learns to love her own life and career.)
Carlo agrees and says that Love for family and friends is his driving force.
"In terms of personal, love of course! Isa ‘yan sa mga driving force ko. Love for my family, love for my friends," he said.

The actor also adds that he can relate to Matias in his effort to hide his true identity.
"For Matias, secrecy kasi ageless niya siya, mythical being kaya importante sa kanya yung secrecy," he added.

Bing agrees with Carlo and Jasmine saying, "Same thing for me kasi you can't give what you don't have. So, you have to love, love and love, start with yourself before you can give to others."
When asked how it was working with Bing and Jasmine, Carlo says, "Si Ms. Bing talaga kapag hindi kami nagte-take sobrang siyang magkwento. Comfortable ako sa kanya, she never stops talking and I love that kasi tahimik lang naman ako sa set."
(Ms. Bing really talks a lot when we're not filming. I'm comfortable with her; she never stops talking, and I love that because I'm always quiet on set.)
Meanwhile, Bing gave credit to Carlo for being professional all throughout.
"I give all the credit to Carlo because he was very professional about our scenes, which I was very uncomfortable with because we’re supposed to be intimate and kissing. I really struggled with it, and I just told him, ‘Bahala ka na, I’ll just go with the flow," she said.
As per Jasmine, it was an easy process as she has worked with Carlo prior in "Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum."
"We kept in touch naman throughout the years, and we always expressed wanting to work together again, lalo na pelikula naman sana because it’s a different medium and a different way of exploring characters and story," Jasmine said.
Their thoughts on aging and immortality
The cast also shared what they feel about aging.
"I have no quams about aging because I think I've lived a good life, and I'm not saying it was perfect. I’ve been through hell. But thank God that He gave me a good life and grit that I was able to get up and surface from the trials that I’ve been through," Bing said.
Carlo is not keen on being immortal.
"Nakakalungkot! Lungkot na lungkot nga ako habang ginagawa ko si Matias kasi ganun siya. He’s 300 or 400 years old. So that means generations and generations of losing people. It’s difficult, it’s painful," Carlo said.
Jasmine agrees.
"Eto pa nga buhay natin na iilang dekada lang, ‘di ba, parang grabe na ‘yung struggles natin... So I don’t think I would want to experience that for 100 more years. But when it comes to life, death, and aging, I think it’s such a beautiful journey to take on and even to witness people changing in front of you," she said.
Also starring, Bembol Roco, Erin Espiritu, Archi Adamos, Alan Paule, Rita Avila, and Mercedes Cabral, "The Time That Remains" now streams on Netflix.
