1 dead, 5 hurt as truck catches fire after crash

ATIMONAN, Quezon – A truck driver was killed and five persons were injured after a wayward cargo truck caught fire following a crash here on Monday morning, Oct. 20.
Atimonan police chief Police Major Marnie Abellanida said the driver of the cargo truck, Rolando, lost control of the vehicle on a descending curved road due to mechanical trouble.
The truck crashed into a pile of mud on the road shoulder and parked wrecked truck, tilted on its side, and slid and rammed two running tricycles.
The truck caught fire and exploded. Rolando was trapped inside and died on the spot.
The passengers and drivers of the tricycles were injured and were taken to a hospital.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
