Suspect in Commonwealth crash tests positive for illegal drugs
The suspect in the fatal road crash along Commonwealth Avenue tested positive for illegal drugs, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) confirmed on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. in front of the Commission on Human Rights in Barangay UP Campus on Friday, Oct. 17.
The driver identified as Ruel Flores Dela Cerna, was traveling eastbound from Elliptical Road toward Fairview when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle and rammed 14 motorcycles.
Laboratory examination conducted by the QCPD Forensic Unit (QCPDFU) revealed that the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine hydrochloride, commonly known as “shabu.”
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez ordered the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to impose a lifetime revocation of Dela Cerna’s driver’s license.
A complaint for Murder, Frustrated Murder, Malicious Mischief, Abandonment of One’s Own Victim, and Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority or their Agents was filed against the suspect.
The suspect will also face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10586 (The Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013) before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
