A drunk man was arrested for allegedly taking his 80-year-old mother hostage inside their house in Barangay Highway Hills, Mandaluyong City, on Saturday night, Oct. 18.
Based on initial reports, the victim was able to seek help from authorities after looking out from the balcony and asking for assistance, saying the suspect was not allowing her to leave. The suspect was also reportedly intoxicated.
Personnel from the Mandaluyong City Police Station Sector 6 and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team immediately responded and tried to negotiate with the suspect. However, the suspect refused to cooperate.
Authorities were able to enter the house after the suspect’s uncle provided them with the layout of the residence, allowing officers to determine how to get inside.
They were then able to rescue the victim, who was reportedly in a room being guarded by the suspect outside the door while allegedly holding a replica gun.
According to authorities, the victim said she had previously been hurt by her son whenever he was drunk.
They are now investigating the incident. The suspect is currently under the custody of the Mandaluyong Police.
