CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Gov. Humerlito A. Dolor has ordered an in-depth investigation over the death of a newborn baby boy at the provincial hospital here.
In a social media post, Dolor said he will dig deeper to the bottom of the case.
The baby’s father, a 20-year-old resident of Barangay Evangelista, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, said his wife was admitted at the Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital (OMPH) on Oct. 16 and at about 6 p.m. that date, she was brought to the delivery room.
After conducting laboratory tests, the doctor reportedly told the couple that their baby inside her womb was already dead as it was not showing any sign of life.
The father went out from the hospital to get the needed materials for his wife while giving birth and when he came back, the doctor told him that the baby had no more heartbeat.
The next day, Oct. 17, at their residence, a family member noticed that the baby’s skin was reportedly still pinkish in color and feces was seen on the white linen that they used to cover the body.
They immediately summoned the barangay health worker who told them that the baby was still pulsating.
They brought the baby to a nearby private hospital where it allegedly found out that it has a heartbeat of 60 to 80, the normal heart rate of humans per minute.
However, the baby eventually died a few minutes later.
Dolor said he feels the agony of the family and he will welcome any complaint against any erring staff of the hospital.
The governor said an immediate and clear investigation is necessary to determine what really happened and resolve the issue based on medical data or findings.
OMPH operates under the jurisdiction of the provincial government.
