Senator Christopher "Bong" Go has one, simple request to all the entities and individuals who are holding inquiries on the anomalies connected to the Department of Public Works and Highways' (DPWH) flood mitigation projects.
"Ang pakiusap ko lang po sa katotohanan lang tayo (My only appeal is that we stick to the truth)," Go said in a recent press conference.
"‘Yung lumabas po ‘yung totoo muna. The truth, the truth lang po. Ilabas n’yo po ‘yung katotohanan. Iyan po ang pakiusap ko sa ICI, kay [DPWH] Secretary Vince [Dizon], at sa lahat po ng nag-iimbestiga. Doon lang po tayo sa katotohanan,” he underscored.
(Let the truth come out first. The truth, only the truth. Reveal what the truth is. That is my appeal to ICI, to Secretary Vince, and to everyone investigating. Let’s just stay with the truth.)
Public outrage over the flood control projects corruption scandal--which involves unscrupulous contractors and lawmakers--has been smoldering for months now. The call for accountability over this massive controversy has never been louder.
“I am one with Filipino people na alamin iyung katotohanan. Tumbukin natin kung sino ‘yung may kasalanan. ‘Yung flood control ang issue rito. ‘Yung ghost projects and issue rito. ‘Yung mga substandard projects ang issue rito. Mga anomalous projects ang issue rito. Panagutin natin ang dapat managot,” Go said.
(I am one with the Filipino people in seeking the truth. Let’s pinpoint who is at fault. The issue here is flood control. The issue here is ghost projects. The issue here is substandard projects. The issue here is anomalous projects. Let’s hold accountable those who must be held accountable.)
Go underscored that, like his fellow Filipinos, he was for accountability: “Nakikiusap po ako (I'm appealing to you). Let us make those responsible accountable for this mess."
The senator also called out those who wanted to distort the truth and divert the real issues and urgent concerns of the country.
“Huwag na tayong paikot-ikot pa. Huwag nating ilihis mula sa katotohanan. Huwag n’yo pong lokohin ang Pilipino. Tumbukin po natin ang dapat tumbukin (Let’s stop going around in circles. Let’s not divert from the truth. Do not deceive the Filipino people. Let’s hit the mark and go straight to the point)," he further said.
