Suspect in viral robbery of 80-year-old man in Tondo arrested
The suspect in the viral robbery incident involving an 80-year-old man in Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila has been arrested, according to the Manila Police District – Police Station 1 (MPD-PS1).
Led by Station Commander Lt. Col. Ronald De Leon, police confirmed the arrest following a delayed report from the victim.
CCTV footage showed the elderly victim walking with a cane when the suspect approached and took the victim’s wallet from his pocket.
Despite the delay in reporting the incident, police were able to identify and track down the suspect through video evidence and backtracking operations led by Cpt. Albert Badiola.
The suspect, identified only as alias Albert, was located and apprehended.
Upon the arrest, the authorities recovered the victim’s stolen wallet and discovered illegal drugs in the suspect’s possession.
He is now facing charges of theft and violation of Republic Act 9165, Section 11 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
The victim and his family expressed their deep gratitude to the police for their prompt response and for delivering swift justice.
