President Marcos inspected the newly built “Bayanihan Village” in San Remigio, Cebu—a modular housing project completed within a week to provide immediate shelter for families displaced by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck the province on Sept. 30.
During his visit on Oct. 10, Marcos checked the condition of affected residents and assured the continued delivery of government housing assistance until their full recovery.
Located in Barangay Poblacion, the Bayanihan Village comprises 45 modular shelter units (MSUs) constructed by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
The project was carried out in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), along with private construction partners.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the project embodies the President’s directive for swift and compassionate action in disaster response, ensuring that no Filipino is left behind in times of crisis.
“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. wants to ease the plight of our fellow Filipinos, which is why we made sure the Bayanihan Village was completed quickly and properly,” Aliling said, adding that several families have already moved into the safer and more comfortable modular shelters.
He emphasized that the success of the initiative highlights the unity and cooperation among government agencies and the private sector in speeding up Cebu’s recovery.
Each cluster of shelters is equipped with comfort rooms, lavatories, and electricity to ensure decent living conditions for residents.
Once officially turned over, the local government of San Remigio will oversee the selection of beneficiaries and manage the maintenance and operation of the housing site.
