'Overstaying' Indian national arrested in Nueva Ecija -- BI
An Indian national who was found “overstaying” in the Philippines since 2018 has been arrested in Nueva Ecija, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
The BI identified him as Gurwinder Singh, 27, who was apprehended in Barangay Castellano in San Leonardo town.
It said its operatives from the Regional Intelligence Operations Unit-3 (RIOU-3) spotted Singh at an eatery along Maharlika Highway, where he was a regular customer.
It also said that Singh was approached by the agents but he failed to present his passport or any identification document.
The RIOU-3 operatives found that he has been overstaying since 2018 in violation of Philippine immigration laws.
Singh was immediately placed under arrest after agents confirmed his identity, and was informed of his constitutional rights in a language he fully understood, the BI said.
He will remain in the BI’s facility in Taguig City pending his deportation.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said: “The Bureau of Immigration remains steadfast in enforcing our laws and ensuring that foreign nationals who overstay or violate their visa conditions are dealt with accordingly.”
