Phivolcs: Magnitude 4.7 earthquake jolts Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck off the coast of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte on Saturday night, Oct. 18, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1, Phivolcs said the tectonic tremor occurred at 6:56 p.m.
The quake had a depth of 10 kilometers, it added.
According to the agency, the earthquake’s epicenter was located west of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.
Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic in origin, meaning it was caused by the movement of rock layers beneath the Earth’s crust.
Reported intensities were Intensity II in Pasuquin and Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, while instrumental intensity was also recorded at Intensity II in Pasuquin.
The agency said it does not expect damage or aftershocks following the quake.
